Final
draft of essay #1
If you really think about it, what gets you through your life? Maybe even your days? What allows you to continue to try and succeed even if you fail
the first time? I truly believe that to get through your life, what you need more than anything is persistence. Without persistence I don’t see how any
individuals could even want to get out of bed every morning. Whether or not you know it, you and everyone else in this world have perseverance in some way. Now
the real question is how does persistence help you get through your life?
To some persistence is nothing more than just getting by each day. To others it means setting goals and doing whatever it takes to reach them.
Persistence can be taught but also you can just be born and raised with it. I grew up with it around me every day. My parents taught me to set goals and reach
every single one of them, even if I fail the first time they taught me to try harder. Having to grow up fast and do it all on my own because they didn’t speak
English nor were they familiar with many things here in America. I feel as if I look at the world in a different way now that I’m older. There’s so much out
there and the opportunities are endless. If you really want something and remain persistent throughout the whole process of trying to reach your goals you will
succeed. Persistence has helped me push through my life with optimism.
In one essay from a classmate, in order to learn persistence she had to go through many bumps in the road. Each event brought her closer to being more
persistent. She wrote, “There is nothing more I find more important in life than perseverance. I promise to myself that I will always bring myself back up from
when I am down, and when I feel otherwise, I am the lotus, and I am above the mud from which I have blossomed.” (Tessa Hamm) She states that she believes
perseverance is the most important thing in life, which I also agree completely. With this she will always bring herself back up when she is down. She even
compared herself and persistence to the lotus. It is grown underground and then blooms above the mud. Being in the mud symbolizes the rough times she went
through and how down she was about her life but then by being persistent she has become the lotus and bloomed above it all. She continues to be persistent with
anything that happens in her life now that she learned from her past. Persistence has helped her get through life also.
Another essay I read posted by a classmate that answers my question to “how does persistence help you get through your life” is by Leighandra. When she
wrote “My whole life doctors have been telling me I was not going to live and this would kill me and I can’t do that. They were right about most things I
could not do, but they underestimated my persistence to live! I strongly believe I learned my persistence from my mother, she could have given up on me when I
was just an infant, and I believe by her persisting to keep me alive throughout my life I developed her same strength and persistence.” (Leighandra) She and her
mother went through many obstacles when she was just an infant and child. Then she had some more complications with her own health, but having perseverance has
never let her give up. She and her mother have learned to live their lives through being persistent and that is definitely what has helped them become who
they are today and make it through their everyday lives. In this case I think she was taught persistence. Her mother never giving up on her when she was born
the way she was with all the complications she went through. Her mother tried her very best to keep her alive and through that Leighandra has learned to be
persistent especially now with her health issues that she’s facing. Being persistent has helped her get through her everyday life and has taught her never
to give up which to me is amazing!
According to an article that I read, it is thought to believe that if you have self-belief and persistence it will help you achieve success in life.
Everyone lives wanting to become successful, individuals who live with persistence and confidence make it through their everyday lives and do whatever
it takes to be successful. This article stated “When you are on the way of achieving long term goals you might face rejections. Strong self-belief will
help you face rejections and save you from stopping before reaching the goal. So, if you are serious and want to succeed in life, build your self-belief.
Remember, you should develop a plan of action and must set an agenda for moving forward. Persistence and self-belief will help you achieve long term goals.”
(Rekaf) To become persistent you may have to face a few failures to get you going, to try and work harder to achieve any goals you may
have.
There can be many different ways that you get through your life, many ways that being persistent has helped you and many ways of learning how to be
and remain persistent. To be persistent it gives you the push you need to get through whatever you are doing and help you try harder even when you fail at
something. Like I have mentioned before, as long as you want something bad enough, persistence brings out confidence and self-belief that will help you
keep going. There is so much out there in this world and so many opportunities that are endless. You will succeed as long as you remain persistent throughout
it all.
